Giulesti nurse released from custody

Nurse Florentina Carstea, detained in relation to the fire that broke out at Giulesti Maternity Hospital on August 16, killing six new-born babies, was to be released from custody yesterday, under a Bucharest City Court ruling, according to Agerpres. The nurse was remanded for 29 days on August 24, facing charges of manslaughter and causing severe bodily harm. The nurse was absent from the intensive care unit where the fire broke out for 12 minutes and in that span of time, the fire broke out from faulty electrical wiring and spread very rapidly, according to investigators. The nurse was alone on duty in the ICU at the time.
