Udrea’s spouse, suspected of influence-peddling in Alro case

The businessman Dorin Cocos, the spouse of the minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, mediated, in May 2006, a meeting between Theodor Stolojan, presidential advisor for economic affairs at the time, and the representatives of the Russian group Marco, the majority shareholder in ALRO Slatina. Evidence of this mediation is found in the record of a phone conversation which Cocos had, on May 6, 2006, with Marian Daniel Nastase, deputy chairman of the Board of Administration of Alro Slatina, broadcast on Monday evening by Realitatea TV. The phone conversation was recorded during the investigation of the “ALRO Slatina” case, conducted by prosecutor Ciprian Nastasiu, which looked into the means by which the Russians at ALRO had managed to obtain preferential prices in buying cheap energy from companies under the Ministry of Economy’s command. The persons involved in activities of “lobby and influencing decision-makers responsible for granting long-term contracts”, Nastasiu states in an interview to www.sroscas.ro, broadcast on Monday by the same television channel, included political leaders such as Stolojan, Udrea, Dan Voiculescu, Verestoy Attila, alongside several decision-makers from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. Realitatea TV meanwhile announced it would make new revelations in the case yesterday evening, saying that the transcripts prove President Traian Basescu’s involvement in the Alro file.
