Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi met Kalman Mizsei, EU Special Representative to Moldova, on Tuesday. Their talks centred on recent developments in the Transdniester file, on Moldova’s internal situation as well as on relations between the EU and the Republic of Moldova. According to the Foreign Ministry, Romania reiterated its support for the Republic of Moldova moving closer to the European Union, saluting the positive developments that the EU – Republic of Moldova relations have seen in the last year. The two officials referred to the significance of the Conclusions that the External Relations Council reached on October 25 in regard to the Republic of Moldova. The document recognizes the neighbouring state’s European aspirations and appreciates Chisinau’s approach toward its relationship with the EU. The Romanian Foreign Minister expressed his hope that the settlement of the Transdniester conflict will register progress, reiterating Romania’s position concerning the identification of a solution within the framework of the “5+2” negotiations format, a solution that would respect Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
