Transporters: Winter tires project could be a problem

The National Union of Romanian Road Transporters (UNTRR) considers that the project concerning the obligation to equip commercial vehicles with winter tires could represent a problem with major implications for transporters in the absence of clear wording, a UNTRR communiqué informs, being quoted by Mediafax.
UNTRR proposes that the definition of winter tires should contain the obligation for them to be homologated in line with a 1992 European Commission directive and to bear the inscriptions M+S, M.S or M&S, in line with the ECC-UN Statute number 30. At the same time, UNTRR considers that the obligation to use winter tires for a long period, namely from November 1 to March 15, has to be correlated with weather conditions. Thus, if on March 1 temperatures surpass 7 degrees Celsius and roads are dry authorities should not issue fines. Likewise, the Federation of Romanian Transport Operators (FORT) demands to meet Transport Minister Anca Boagiu in order to discuss the obligation to have vehicles fitted with winter tires.
