The Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu- best European documentary

Andrei Ujica’s docu- feature was awarded the best Eastern- European documentary in the 14th edition of Jihlava Intenational Festival, Czech Republic, Hotnews reports.

“The jury decided to award this ambitious epic film. By finding a fine balance between a the tragedy of a ridiculous man and the excessive arrogance of a leader who progressively loses his legitimacy, this is a historical landmark film,” was the jury’s argument on the award. Recently the film earned a well deserved award in the best documentary section of the Bergen BIFF festival. The film opened on Bucharest screens last weekend and already gathered 5,000 viewers. It can be still seen at Studio, Hollywood Multiplex and AFI Cotroceni. Culled from one thousand hours of archival footage and four years in the making, this spellbinding montage epic unfolds as if from the nostalgic, solipsistic memory of former Romanian ruler Nicolae Ceausescu, after his reign was brought to an abrupt and tumultuous end in December 1989.
