Barroso to attend Danube Summit in Bucharest

The University of Bucharest will grant, on Monday, the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Durao Barroso, who is expected in Bucharest to attend the Danube Summit. The president of the EC will be awarded the honorary title in a ceremony to be held in the Aula Magna of the University of Bucharest’s Faculty of Law, according to a release by the University of Bucharest. Barroso will visit Bucharest on Monday, where he will attend, alongside the president Traian Basescu, the opening of the Danube Summit, which will address the directions which have to be considered in drafting the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

The Danube Summit in Bucharest will bring together, at top level, 22 delegations representing the national governments of 14 states in the Danube region, the president of the European Commission, the prime-ministers or governors of the six Danube lands in Germany and Austria and the mayor of Ulm in Germany. At the same time, Poland was invited as an observer.
