Poll: Romanians see Cristian Diaconescu as next president, in 2014

Romanians see the leader of the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR), Cristian Diaconescu as the country’s next president, in 2014, according to an opinion poll conducted by www.ziare.com. A total 8,500 readers voted in online poll that ran for a week, during October 29 – November 5. The winner was Cristian Diaconescu, ahead of opposition party leaders Victor Ponta and Crin Antonescu. The readers were asked the question: “Who will succeed Traian Basescu at Cotroceni, in 2014?” Respondents placed the UNPR honourary president on the first place, with 24.57 pc, followed by PSD leader Victor Ponta (23.46 pc) and the PNL president, Crin Antonescu, with just 15.13 pc.

The list of potential candidates also includes Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi (7.04 pc), BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu (5.58 pc), the PDL secretary general Vasile Blaga (3.08 pc), Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu (2.19 pc), the minister of Regional Development and Tourism Elena Udrea (2.11 pc), the owner of OTV, Dan Diaconescu (1.59 pc), the mayor of Bucharest District 3, Liviu Negoita (1.13 pc) and the mayor of Constanta, Radu Mazare (1.01 pc).
