ANEIR: Speculators are putting huge pressure on the exchange rate

The evolution of the Romanian currency is subject to “huge” pressure put by speculators located both in Romania and abroad, who want to see the Leu go down, the president of the National Association of Exporters and Importers in Romania (ANEIR), Mihai Ionescu said during the event of launching Romania’s export strategy for 2010-2014 on public debate, Mediafax reports. The strategy aims at promoting innovative companies, exploring new international markets, strengthening the institutional collaboration and supporting projects that will make the object of “a multi-annual approach of project management activities.” The main sectors to be promoted through the strategy are tourism, IT, agriculture and machine building. According to Ionescu, the Central Bank assured ANEIR that it will support the companies that sell their products on foreign markets and will secure the stability of the exchange rate, “which will encourage exporters sign contracts for 2011.”
