Pope John Paul II’s statue may replace the Millenium tower

A statue of Pope John Paul II may be erected on the site next to the St. Joseph Cathedral, on which the Millenium tower now stands. “It is to be discussed. On the whole, we’ve been considering for some time to have a little square on that site and we would like to place there the statue of the last but one Pope,” the general mayor of Bucharest, Sorin Oprescu, stated, in response to a question referring to the possible demolishing of the Millenium tower, as a consequence of the Suceava Court of Appeal’s ruling. The Suceava Court of Appeal annulled, the other day, the decision allowing the building of the Millenium Tower. This is the case in which the Roman Catholic Archbishopric and the Bucharest Mayor’s Office called for the reviewing of ruling 1025/25.06.2009 issued by the Ploiesti Court of Appeal which found the Millenium Tower had been built legally.
