Clients give up cable TV

The total number of cable TV subscribers has dropped by some 100,000 in the first half of this year, down to 5.73 million, HotNews.ro reports. This is the first decline reported since the introduction of the DTH technology in Romania, an involution that was also experienced by the market of satellite TV services, not just cable TV, according to figures released Tuesday by the National Administrative and Regulatory Authority for Communication (ANCOM). ANCOM President Catalin Marinescu claims this is not just the effect of economic troubles experienced by Romania. According to content providers’ complaints, an explanation might also be the evasion present on the cable TV market, where operators report fewer customers so they must pay less for operating licenses.
