Population continues to drop

According to a National Statistics Institute (INS) report quoted by ‘Romania Libera,’ Romania’s population dropped in September too since the number of deaths surpas­sed the number of births by 502. In the first nine months of 2010 the po­pulation dropped by 32,088, while in the whole of 2009 the population dropped by more than 34,000. Romania’s population currently stands at less than 21.5 million people compared to the peak of 23.2 million reached 20 years ago. In what concerns marriages, compared to the month before in Sep­tember their number dropped by 5,596 to 15,901, while the number of divorces dropped by 922 to 1,971.
