Ambient estimates 15 pc turnover rise next year in defiance of crisis

Ambient, a Sibiu-based fully Romanian-owned company marketing construction materials, indoor finishes and fittings, estimates a turnover rise of 15 per cent in 2011.

“For next year, given we’ve achieved the plans set so far for the ongoing year, we estimate a turnover up 15 per cent, from EUR 104 M in 2010, to nearly 120 M euros, amid market stagnation,” Ambient General Director Ioan Ciolan told yesterday’s press conference marking the company’s 18 year anniversary. This year’s turnover will be up EUR 1 M from that in 2009, according to company data. “If in 2009, the company made an operational profit of EUR 2 M, this year it rose to EUR 5 M,” the Ambient press release also states. In his turn, Liviu Voicu, the company’s financial director, said he didn’t expect the company to return to net profit this year, after losses in the past two years. Nonetheless, he made the point that EBITDA will be on uptrend, the EUR 5 M predictions for the running year referring to an increase upwards of 100 per cent from last year’s EUR 2 M. “Ambient has a chain of 12-commercial centres and we are not going to open a new one in the foreseeable future,” Ambient founder Ioan Ciolan said.
The company concluded this year the business repositioning process started in 2009, and consists now of two divisions – retail, which accounts for 45 per cent of the turnover and is made up of a chain of 12 commercial centres, and distribution, consisting of 11 work stations and building materials warehouses.
