Senator Voicu remains behind bars

The High Court decided yesterday to hold Senator Catalin Voicu on remand, in a case in which the MP faces charges of influence peddling and other acts of corruption, Agerpres reported. Voicu, formerly a lawmaker on behalf of the Social-Democrat Party, was taken into custody at the end of March. He is accused of having used his influence on magistrates and police to intervene in favour of various businessmen and politicians, most of them from the ranks of the Social-Democrats. Judge Florin Costiniu and businessmen Costel Casuneanu and Marius Locic are also probed in the case.
