Disciplinary sanctions against Romanian football officials

The Disciplinary Commission of the Professional Football League (LPF) has decided to sanction Gigi Becali, the owner of Football Club Steaua, Victor Piturca, manager at U Cra­iova, Marian Iancu, owner of FC Timisoara, and Dinu Gheorghe, president of Rapid FC, with suspension and fines for racist statements and corruption accusations levelled against referees, according to the LPF website. Gigi Becali got a two-month suspension and was fined 15,000 RON, Marian Iancu, three-month suspension and 15,000 RON fine. Victor Piturca, a four-round suspension and 7,500 RON fine and Dinu Gheorghe, two-month suspension and a 15,000 RON fine. Marian Iancu and Victor Piturca traded racial slurs during a programme on GSP TV. “Messers. Dinu Gheor­ghe, Gigi Becali and Cristi Borcea have been judged by the Discipli­nary Commission for the statements made after the Rapid – Pandurii game. The central Refereeing Commission lodged a claim with the Disciplinary Commission, who decided the said sanctions,” hotnews.ro quoted Ion Neagu, chairman of the LPF Disciplinary Commission, as saying.
