Iacobov, sentenced to seven years in prison in RAFO case

The Bucharest Court of Appeal (CAB) sentenced Corneliu Iacobov to seven years in prison and Toader Gaurean to six years in prison, in the RAFO Onesti case. The decision may be appealed against at the high court. Two years ago, Iacobov had been acquitted by the Bucharest Court of charges brought against him: money-laundering, association towards criminal acts and serving as accessory in acts of abuse in office. According to the investigators, Iacobov negotiated and sealed the illegal alienation of SC RAFO SA Onesti assets, at prices significantly lower than their actual value. The damages caused amounted to almost ROL 243 bln, investigators argued.
