Another 26,000 public employees laid off by year’s end, PM Boc says

While in Constanta on Saturday, PM Emil Boc announced that 26,000 more public sector employees will lose their jobs by the end of the year, realiatea.net. reports, with the documents authorizing the cuts drawn up already.

“When we came to power in December 2008, there were 1,397,000 public employees, on September 30 there were 1,316,000” Boc said.

During Dec. 2008 – Sept. 2010, namely since Emil Boc is Romania’s prime minister, more than half of million jobs vanished from the market, of which 80,000 public sector jobs. Practically, one in eight Romanians who had a job in 2008 is unemployed now.

Government pledged to the International Monetary Fund to lay off this year yet another 15,000 public employees. Premier Boc said government’s core policy on 2011 is aimed at the number of state employees being slashed through retirement, amicable termination of working relationship and employees going to study abroad.
