League 1: FC Timisoara is just one point behind leader Otelul Galati

FC Timisoara won the most interesting match of the latest leg of the League 1, with a 2-0 home victory against leader Otelul Galati. The result places Timisoara second in the League standings, just one point behind Otelul, one leg before the winter break.

Timisoara, undefeated in this edition of the League, scored twice in three minutes, through Cisovsky and Nikolic. The first goal comes in the 75th minute of the match, when Alexa’s free kick reaches Zicu, who centers, Perendija makes a mistake when he tries to stop the ball, and Cisovsky pushes the ball in the goals of Otelul Galati. The second goal comes after just three minutes. Nikolic sprints on the left side, dribbles Perendija and scores with a strong kick.

With nothing to lose, the guests launch attack after attack towards the end of the match, sending even goalkeeper Grahovac forward. Timisoara ends the match with one man less, as Hristu Chiacu is sent off in the 81st minute.

“I am slightly disappointed, but I don’t take this match too tragically, as there are three very important games ahead. I don’t want to elaborate on the referee’s decisions; a penalty should have been dictated for Antal’s hit and Alexa should have seen a yellow or red card. Our fans were able to watch a beautiful game. We’ll try to keep our place,” Otelul coach Dorinel Munteanu (photo) said after the match.

In another match FC Vaslui was able to stay near the podium of League 1, after a 1-0 win on Sunday against Sportul Studentesc – which ranks last in the League. After two near misses in the second half, the Vaslui team got lucky and Yaro Bello scored the only goal of the match, in the 72nd minute.

After an uneventful, even dull first half, Vaslui missed a huge opportunity to score, in the 3rd minute of the second half, when Gheorghiu was unable to take advantage of an error in the defence of Sportul and the ball hit the post, though he was just two meters in front of the goals. In the 67th minute, with only Sportul goalie Niculescu between him and the goals, Yaro Bello was still unable to score. His teammate Pouga recovered the ball, but shot above the crossbar, from 10 meters. Eventually, the goal came in minute 72, when Yaro Bello received a cross-kick to the near post and scored with the head, from five meters. This was the 12th defeat for Sportul Studentesc in this season of League 1, which keeps the Bucharest-based team on the last place.
