PwC: Romania, last in the EU, based on the ease of paying taxes

Romania fell last year on the last place in the European Union based on how easy it is for a company to pay taxes, and dropped two places in the global top, from the 149th to the 151st position, out of 183 states surveyed each year by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the World Bank, Mediafax reports. The total tax rate for an average Romanian-based company stands at 44.9 pc, slightly above the EU average, but under the world average (47.8 pc), while the time needed to prepare the documentation, submit the statements and make the payments (time to comply) amounts to 222 hours, which is also the EU average. Romania however has the highest number of payments of all EU states: 113 operations, including 84 that refer to social contributions, compared to a European average of just 17 payments a year. The best placed country in the global top is Sweden, with only 2 annual payments.
