Romania, in the top of countries at risk of famine

A new multi-annual gallop of food prices is almost inevitable and Romanians could suffer because of high food prices. According to a report issued by the Japanese experts of Nomura, Romania is the European country with the highest risk of a generalised price increase, and also among the most exposed nations of the world, romanialibera.ro announces. Substantial food imports (about 1.1 pc of the Gross Domestic Product, more than EUR 1.3 bln), low incomes and the huge share held by food in the total consumption expenses of the population (almost 50 pc) are placing Romania on the 12th position worldwide in a top of risks generated by price increases for basic products.
