Macovei to lead EP observers’ delegation in Moldovan elections

Elections in Moldova, scheduled for November 28, will be monitored by a European Parliament delegation, made up of four MEPs – Monica Macovei (EPP), Elena Basescu (EPP), Catalin Ivan (S&D) and Laima Liucija Andrikiene (EPP), according to a press release, quoted by Agerpres.

The delegation, led by MEP Monica Macovei, will discuss with representatives of the political parties, the media and NGOs. On Sunday, the four MEPs will act as observers in several polling stations in Chisinau and in other Moldovan cities. According to the Romanian MEP, it is essential to prevent any fraud in the Moldovan elections scheduled for November 28. On November 28, early parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova, after the interim president Mihai Ghimpu signed the decree dissolving the legislative, at the end of September. The measure came in the wake of a Constitutional Court ruling, issued on September 21, deciding that failure to elect a president in two consecutive rounds of elections offers the grounds for dissolving the legislative.
