MEP Cristian Preda contemplates Bucharest Mayor job

MEP Cristian Preda (PDL) states in an interview with the ziare.com that he will join the internal party race to be nominated as a candidate in the local election. Preda thinks PDL should hold internal competitions in order to be able to select the best candidates for mayor in Bucharest, Iasi, Timisoara and Constanta. Unlike Vasile Blaga, Cristian Preda would not object to the party being represented by an outsider in the election of the Bucharest mayor. The member of the European Parliament however says he will join the race himself, hoping to be selected by his party as a mayor candidate in the Capital. Preda believes an alliance with PSD would be poisonous and characterises Victor Ponta as a ‘politically suicidal’ figure. On the other hand, he would be happy if the DA Alliance could be remade, but not with Crin Antonescu in it. The President of the PDL Bucharest organisation, Elena Udrea said yesterday she had not reconsidered her decision as to not run for Mayor.‘I have said this from the very beginning – it is too soon for me to say if I will join this race this time’.
