Basescu asks for full payment of Rompetrol-Rafinare’s debt

During his meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, a meeting occasioned by the 7th OSCE Summit, Romanian President Traian Basescu asked for the full payment of the debt that Rompetrol-Rafinare Company owes Romania, Mediafax informs.

During the meeting the Romanian Head of State conveyed his appreciation for the manner in which Kazakhstan, which holds OSCE’s Chairmanship this year, organized the Summit in Astana, the aforementioned source informs. During his previous March 2010 visit to Kazakhstan, President Traian Basescu stated during a meeting he had with businessmen that it is necessary to observe the commitments made by companies that operate in Romania.

On the second day of his visit, President Traian Basescu met the representatives of Romanian and Kazakh energy companies, reiterating the Romanian state’s interest to stimulate a business environment that would be as favorable as possible for the development of bilateral cooperation. The Head of State added that the good level of bilateral relations should encourage mutual investments and the cooperation of specialists from both countries in projects of mutual interest, a communiqué issued by the Presidency shows.
Fitch financial ratings agency has placed the “B+” rating for Rompetrol group’s long-term credits under watch, in view of a possible demotion, after ANAF levied a distraint upon the assets of Rompetrol Rafinare, its subsidiary.
