Ion Iliescu will not make an active comeback to politics

Social-Democrat Party (PSD) Honourary President, Ion Iliescu, stated on Friday, in Ploiesti, that he had no intention to make a comeback to political life, arguing he had “had enough” and that he considered he could render himself useful by acting “as a symbol” and by his intellectual contribution. The former head of state called, once again, on PSD and the National Liberal Party (PNL) to work together to draft a joint platform, to rid the country of the present Government He argued that, for the time being, conditions were not ripe for early elections, but he did not preclude the possibility that “this block on which the present government lies (e.n. the National Union for Romanian Progress and the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania) may start breaking,” which would pave the way for early elections.
