Romania, under EP tax investigation

The European Parliament is conducting an investigation into tax laws in Romania, according to a release by the Association for the Prevention of Tax Abuses (APAF), Agerpres reports. “The petition to the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament, submitted by president Garbis Kehaiyan on behalf of the APAF, on the VAT enforced by government emergency ordinance OUG 106/2007, which came into effect since January 1, 2008, yet is now applied retroactively beginning 2002, has been examined and the European Commission’s been asked to carry out its own preliminary inquiry over the aspects notified by the APAF. Usually, when the European Commission conducts a preliminary investigation, the chance is quite high for the petition to be taken into account,” states the document.
