Deputy president Cezar Preda comments on “fawning” in PDL

In an interview to Europa FM, the Democrat-Liberal leader is trying to account for the obsequious speeches made during the election of the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) Bucharest leader. In his opinion, “that’s what happens at party conferences which have a mobilizing component”. Fawning is no longer what it was in 1989,” the deputy president of PDL stated. “Have you seen Baconschi? What can I do, change them? If you talk to him, he seems a man who knows what he’s saying. (…) That’s what the man was thinking. And the entire country heard him thinking out loud! What can Elena Udrea do now?,” Cezar Preda said, referring to the party meeting for the election of the head of the PDL Bucharest organization. The press remarked on the fact that the party leaders present, on November 21, at the meeting of the PDL Bucharest Coordinating Council, where Udrea was elected president of the Bucharest organization, made highly appreciative speeches. FM Baconschi went as far as commenting, in reference to Elena Udrea, that he had “to make great efforts to refrain from succumbing to her charm”. In the same interview, Cezar Preda argued the potential contenders for the position of party leader are seeking president Traian Basescu’s blessing to openly enter the race. In his opinion, no one is, as yet, brave enough to announce they would join the race irrespective of what Traian Basescu has to say.
