The vineyards destined to the production of quality wines that comply with the Appellation of Controlled Origin (AOC) standards accounted last year only for 15.1 pc of the total wine-grape plantations (170,292 hectares) and the preferred types of grapes were those used for white wines.
In 2009, the largest area cultivated with grapevine was in the South-East region of development (40 pc of the total), followed by the region South-West Oltenia (18.8 pc).
