League 1 postpones Leg 19 for 2011 due to weather conditions

The Romanian Football Federation’s Emergency Committee decided on Monday that leg 19 will be played in 2011, not next week-end (December 10-13) as initially scheduled. Weather factors were the main reason behind the decision.

Otelul Galati, this season’s surprise team, won its home-side game against Sportul Studentesc, score 1-0, in the last leg this year and hiked its lead at the top of the standings to 5 points. The team coached by Dorinel Munteanu had a lot of work to do against the bottom-ranking yet tenacious Sportul Studentesc, managing to win thanks to a spectacular goal scored by Marius Pena. “I will make no transfers this winter, I have confidence in the team I now have at my disposal,” Dorinel Munteanu stated after the game, expressing his content with the team’s performance. So far this season Otelul won 12 games, lost 3 and finished 3 in a tie, scoring 23 goals and conceding 14. In another game, FC Vaslui finished its home-side game against Rapid in a tie, score 1-1. The result favors none of the two teams. Raul Costin opened the score for Vaslui with a shot from outside the box, Herea equalizing at the end of a blitz counter-attack. Vaslui remains on third place with 32 points, while Rapid totals 30 points, being 9 points behind League leader Otelul.
