PNL gains two MP seats

The Liberals gained two more parliamentarians yesterday, when Mariana Campeanu won the partial elections held in the 3rd Constituency Hunedoara and ex-PDL Deputy Calin Potor joined PNL. Mariana Campeanu, a former Labour minister, won the elections in the 3rd Constituency Hunedoara with 8,738 votes out of the 25,069 ballots that were cast and declared valid, outscoring PDL candidate Daniel Raducanu, with only 7,339 votes. The position of deputy is vacant since the demise of Ioan Timis, last August. PSD President Victor Ponta said yesterday that Mariana Campeanu’s victory proves that a united opposition can win, “despite the millions thrown in the game by PDL.” In his turn, PNL leader Crin Antonescu described this as a very important moment for the moral of the party.

The PNL president also hailed the decision of former PDL, now independent deputy Calin Potor, representing the Alba County, to join PNL, and presented him with the party badge. Potor said he chose PNL because this party has solutions for Romania and for the town of Alba Iulia. Potor is a former president of PDL Alba, who resigned from this position last August.
