Disgruntled customers stage protest against bank abuses

Bank customers unhappy about abuses made by 13 banks operating in Romania have kicked off an awareness and protest campaign, demanding that both the EU and national legislation be complied with not only by customers but banks as well, according to a release signed by Sorin Ghinea in customers’ name, Agerpres reports. “This campaign is not aimed against banks, but the abusive conduct existing in the relationship between bank and client,” the document states. The over 15,000 discontented customers call on banks to accept periodical early loan payoffs of small amounts, such as RON 1.13 or EUR 1.07 or RON 0.99, with the bank to accept such paybacks or be lodged claims with the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC). The paybacks may or may not be subject to very small commissions, RO 0.01, on those amounts, for variable interest rate loans,” the release states.
