Online tax payment program to be applied in stages

Prime Minister Emil Boc reminded, on Friday, that the program by which taxpayers will be able to pay their dues using an electronic system, announced by the Ministry of Communications as early as October, would be applied as of next year, Mediafax reports. He reiterated that, in the first stage, the program would be applied in county residences and cities boasting a population of over 15,000 inhabitants, and that the local authorities should join the program in maximum seven months. Public authorities may select their service provider to collect online payments. According to data in the background note to the bill, in Romania there are only 12 local public authorities who have developed online tax payment systems, one local public authority which developed an unassisted electronic tax payment system and about 100 local authorities which developed assisted electronic tax payment systems.
