Democrat Liberals want PSD head heard over Schengen comment

The ruling Democrat Liberal Party (PDL) decided to demand that Social-Democrat leader Victor Ponta be heard by Parliament’s foreign affairs committees to give explanations about comments he allegedly made in Strasbourg about Romania’s Schengen accession, when he reportedly asked MEPs for tougher demands from Bucharest in the process. PDL Vice President Cristian Boureanu said on Monday Ponta has to bring arguments that would prove that his stance in Strasbourg served national interests, since there are several MEPs who claim otherwise. If a hearing before the committees is not scheduled, PDL is determined to demand a parliamentary investigation commission, he said. When asked to comment on Boureanu’s statement, Ponta said he was not interested in what PDL wants, given that the ruling party “wants to probe everybody in this country.”
