Parliament to debate 2011 budget next week

The Standing Bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate yesterday set up the calendar of debates on the 2011 state budget and social insurance draft budget bills, with the joint plenum to discuss the issue starting Monday, December 20. MPs shall submit amendments to the two bills during Dec. 13-15, with commission debates to be held Dec. 16 through 19. Under the calendar established by the two Houses, specialized commission debates towards commission recommendations will take place Thursday, Dec. 16, followed by budget-finance commission meetings to follow suit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, aimed at drafting the report.

According to Dumitru Pardau, the Chamber of Deputies Democrat-Liberal secretary, the Standing Bureaus decided that, were a non-confidence motion to be tendered over government assuming responsibility for blanket salary law, the motion will be read before Parliament, Thursday, Dec.16 and debated Monday, Dec. 20. PDL Vice-President, Cristian Boureanu said yesterday the ruling party would like the budget bill to be adopted until December 22. On the other hand, Liberals announced they would challenge the budget bill with the Constitutional Court if it is passed before the blanket salary law.
