Winter auction brings together greatest Romanian painters

Art works worth over EUR 1 M will be on display in the auction marking the second anniversary of Artmark House. Dozens of masterpieces signed by Tonitza, Petrascu, Pallady, Grigorescu, Bancila, Iser, Vermont, Steriadi, Tuculescu, Piliuta, Pacea and Balasa will be put on sale, on December 16, at the Winter Auction, many of these impressive works coming from the National Art Museum collection. “The starting prices for these masterpieces are more than appealing, as the great majority are auctioned off at several thousand euros, offering art-lovers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. For instance, two paintings by Bancila are on offer at prices ranging between EUR 3,000 and 4,000, while three works by Tonitza will be auctioned at prices ranging between EUR 10,000 and 20,000. About a third of the works on auction are priced at less than EUR 1,000,” the Artmark House release reads.

According to the aforementioned source, Artmark House’s anniversary winter auction promises to be this year’s most interesting event on the Romanian art market, a young market, which investors have recently started to take an interest in, soon after the publishing of this year’s “Art Market Index”, which reported average yields from the rising value of heritage art investments at approximately 27 per cent a year, as well as the launch of other instruments to modernize and enhance the transparency of transactions on the art market.

The 2010 Winter Auction will be held, simultaneously, on December 16, at the Bucharest Marriot Hotel and at the Sibiu Hilton Hotel.
