Labour productivity up 1.9 pc in Q3

Labour productivity per occupied person increased by 1.9 pc in Q3 2010, against the same quarter of 2009, according to data provided by the National Statistics Institute (INS). Against the same quarter of the previous year, labour productivity was up 1.6 pc in Q2 2010, down 1 pc in Q1 2010, down 5.3 pc in Q4 2009 and down 6.2 pc in Q3 2009. Real productivity per hour registered an increase of 1.8 pc in Q3 2010, preceded by another rise of 1.4 pc in Q2 2010, a drop of 1 pc in Q1 2010, a decrease by 5.1 pc in Q4 2009 and another by 7.2 pc in Q3 2009.

On the other hand, the number of gainfully occupied population increased in each quarter of 2010, up to 9.104 million people in the third quarter of the year. In Q1 2010, the number of gainfully occupied population stood at 8.788 millions, followed by 8.962 millions in Q2 this year. In the third quarter of 2008, before the advent of the crisis in Romania, occupied population topped 9.6 million. The number of employees, including the estimated number of people working in the “unobserved economy,” was of 6.486 millions in Q1 2010, followed by 6.549 millions in Q2 and 6.459 millions in Q3 this year. In the third quarter of 2008, the number was 6.532 millions. The number of individual entrepreneurs was also on the rise in 2010, from 2.301 millions in the first quarter to 2.413 millions in Q2 to 2.644 millions in Q3. In the third quarter of 2008 there were 3.067 million individual entrepreneurs in Romania.
