The Romanian National Post Office Company (CNPR) is holding negotiations with a number of companies and partners towards providing financial, banking and insurance services as well, Aurica Popa, the company’s executive director, said yesterday. “While we couldn’t talk about the Romanian Post turning into a bank, we nonetheless are keen to implement this system, and we have already taken a few steps in this respect. (…) Although this project is yet to be completed, we have had meetings with willing partners (…) Negotiations have begun for all services – financial, banking and insurance,” Popa said. The CNPR top official declined to say when the system would be put into practice on grounds such estimate is not among her professional duties. In a recent interview, Communications and Informational Society Minister Valerian Vreme too said the Romanian Post should turn its attention to providing financial, banking and insurance services, without neglecting its basic function, distributing letters namely.
