Basescu: Rompetrol makes important contributionto state budget

The Romanian president, Traian Basescu, met, on Tuesday, the representatives of KazMunaiGaz, for a preliminary technical talk, Mediafax informs. Several such meetings with the Romanian authorities are scheduled for the beginning of next year.

According to the president, he met a KazMunaiGaz delegation sent by the president of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbaev. He added the topic on the agenda of this preliminary meeting was the means of payment of the company’s debts to the Romanian state. The president said the Romanian side had no wish to create problems for the Petromidia refinery. “We understand no one is doing great at a time of crisis, so Rompetrol is not doing great either, but we take note that Rompetrol offers jobs to 20,000 Romanians, that it makes an important contribution to the state budget, so we won’t swoop down on them ‘let’s lock them up, take their assets, sell them, seize their oil fields’”, Basescu stated. The head of state argued the two parties needed to find a way of assisting the company. He further stated, on Wednesday, that he had had a recent talk with his Kazakh counterpart on portioning the Rompetrol debt, adding that a delegation from Kazakhstan is expected to Romania, in January, for talks and claiming that Dinu Patriciu is trying to depreciate the company’s shares.
