Football: Rapa, Silviu Ilie and Gaman play in Match Against Poverty

Romanian football players Cornel Rapa, Silviu Ilie (both playing for Otelul Galati) and Valerica Gaman (Universitatea Craiova) have played on Tuesday evening in the Match Against Poverty in Piraeus, a game that pitted Olympiakos against the “Friends of Zidane and Ronaldo” All-Stars team. The game ended in a tie, score 2-2. The game took place within the Karaiskakis stadium in front of 33,000 fans. At first Romania was to be represented by Gica Popescu but the latter suffered an injury and gave the three young players the chance to play in the charity game. The game took place under UNDP’s aegis, with Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane being UNDP ambassadors. The proceedings will be donated to the victims of the Haiti earthquake and of the floods in Pakistan.
