998 projects have been contracted through the Regional Operational Program (POR), amounting to a total value of EUR 3 bln, and the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) set out to put to use, by June 2011, the EUR 4.3 bln allotted through POR, Mediafax reports. The minister of Regional Development and Tourism, Elena Udrea, stated that, by contracting POR projects, 5,450 jobs were created, while ensuring the rehabilitation of 2,532 kilometres of public roads, 35 hospitals and 140 schools. “As of next year, we will be using default specifications, which, we hope, will put an end to infamous practices commonly used in public acquisitions,” Udrea added.
