The Romanian Cultural Institute in Berlin organizes, for the first time in Germany, a Romanian film festival titled “Rekonstruktion. Filmland Rumänien”. Taking place between December 16 and 22, the festival is held simultaneously in three cities: Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart.
The programme will include “New Wave” productions, such as the multi-awarded “4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days”, by Cristian Mungiu, “If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle”, by Florin Serban, the winner of the best debut award in the 2010 Berlinale, and “Tuesday, after Christmas,” by Radu Muntean, present this year at the Cannes Film Festival. By films like “Meandre”, “The Stone Wedding”, “100 lei” or “Beyond the Bridge”, Romanian directors created, between 1960 and 1970, masterpieces which may be compared to the most celebrated productions of Italian or French cinema of the time. Among those, Lucian Pintilie’s “Reconstruction” was an anticipation of the fact that Romania would make it through the totalitarian regime and it would forge a path towards its own cinematic identity.
