Romanians’ purchasing power lowest in EU after Bulgaria

Romanians have the lowest purchasing power in the region, after Bulgaria. Thus, according to Eurostat, the GDP per capita as expressed by the standard purchasing power ebbed in Romania, last year, from 47 per cent of the European Union average to 46 per cent, and remains the lowest in the community, while, in most Central and Eastern European states, things have picked up. Out of the 27 EU member states, 12 reported a drop in the GDP per capita, while, in nine countries, the value is on the rise, and, in the remaining six, it remains steady. In Central and Eastern Europe, Bulgaria remained, last year, at 44 per cent of the EU average, while Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland reported a rising trend.
