Poll: Liberal leader remains presidential favorite

According to an opinion poll conducted by CCSB and quoted by ‘Puterea’ daily, National Liberal Party leader Crin Antonescu continues to top the Romanians’ voting preferences when it comes to Presidential elections, scoring 32 per cent. He is followed by Social-Democrat Party leader Victor Ponta with 22 per cent. Surprisingly, controversial journalist Dan Diaconescu has become a favorite, climbing on third place with 18 per cent of voting preferences.

When the respondents were asked an open-ended question the results were: Crin Antonescu – 14 per cent; Dan Diaconescu – 7 per cent; Mircea Geoana and Corneliu Vadim Tudor – 6 per cent; Victor Ponta and Traian Basescu – 5 per cent. Crin Antonescu would also win a Presidential run-up against Victor Ponta, 58 per cent of the respondents stating they would vote for the Liberal leader.

If Parliamentary elections were to take place next Sunday 36 per cent of respondents would vote for PSD, 26 per cent for PNL, 15 per cent for PDL, 8 per cent for PPR (Dan Diaconescu’s party), 7 per cent for PRM and 3 per cent for UDMR. The opinion poll was conducted on December 3-7, on a sample of 1,019 persons and has a margin of error of +/- 3 per cent.
