Postal Company, fined EUR 24 M by CC

The Competition Council (CC) dealt the Romanian Post a fine amounting to 7 pc of last year’s turnover, sources in the institution stated, for “Evenimentul Zilei”. In 2009, the Romanian Post’s turnover amounted to over RON 1.43 bln, that is to say, the fine the company has to pay amounts to almost EUR 24 M. At the beginning of this month, CC announced it had finalized the investigation into a possible violation of national and EU competition rules by the Romanian Post. At the moment, no decision had been made regarding sanctions. CC’s investigation looked into two possible violations of the law regarding the Post’s abuse of its dominant position, by its policy of granting tariff reductions in supplying postal services.
