Private TV channel awards leading personalities

Realitatea TV on Wednesday evening organised the sixth edition of its annual ‘Ten for Romania’ Awards, offering prizes to leading personalities in various fields, including scientific research, music, sport, architecture, community projects, Romanian entrepreneurship, diplomacy and theatre.

The prize for scientific research was granted to Raluca van Staden for various projects, including one that helps diagnose cancer on molecular level. Actress Draga Olteanu Matei was granted an excellence award for her entire career, while the trophy for best achievement in music was given to Paula Seling and Ovi, who represented Romania to Eurovision. Another award for music achievement was given to Inna, for her ‘fulminating career’ and success in countries such as Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium Turkey, England and Poland. Prizes for community projects were given to Petrom, Iasi-based Petre Andrei University and school 150 in Bucharest. Other lifetime achievement awards were granted to ex-cosmonaut Dumitru Dorin Prunariu, leading professor and academician Mircea Malita and actors Stela Popescu and Alexandru Arsinel.

Organisers also gave President Traian Basescu an award for “the courage of proposing the most unpopular measures to reform the state.” The award was taken by a woman who claimed being Basescu’s cousin. The presidential administration denied that Traian Basescu sent anyone to take his award.
