According to the SudOuest website, quoted by Realitatea.net, six members of a family of Romanian citizens were deferred to the prosecutor’s office in Bordeaux and arraigned before a judge, being charged with kidnapping and violence. The six, four of which are the main defendants, came to the Gironde department from Romania’s Curtea de Arges several months ago. The family settled down in a make-shift camp in Bordeaux-Lac. Having no jobs, they came up with a system that allowed them to earn money by exploiting fellow nationals that they managed to lure to France by promising them employment. Once in France, the tricked Romanians had their IDs confiscated and were then forced to steal metal or to open bank accounts in order to buy television sets and mobile phones at promotional prices. The moneys were then collected by one of the six defendants.
