General Mayor kicks off winter holiday events in the capital

Bucharest General Mayor Sorin Oprescu on Saturday evening kicked off the series of special events for the winter holidays, in the capital’s downtown Unirii Park. In a statement to Agerpres, the mayor said he wants these events to make Bucharest residents happy and forget about their troubles. “I hope I will manage to get Bucharest residents out of their homes this Christmas and New Year’s,” he said.

Celebrations and special events for the winter holidays will be held in several areas of the capital, including Unirii Park, Unirii Boulevard, Constitution Square, Cismigiu Park. In all the locations, special playgrounds for children were set up and folk artists form all over the country will exhibit their products. Moreover, city officials are organizing reindeer-drawn cart and sledge rides and pony rides for children in Unirii Park.

Also for children, a Santa’s Workshop was set up, where amateur artists dressed as fairies, elves and other fairytale characters will recreate the magical atmosphere of Santa’s home. Moreover, various folk ensembles, carollers and pop, rock and folk artists will give concerts on the Unirii Park stage, while the Tandarica and Ion Creanga theatres will stage Christmas-themed shows for Children.

Similar manifestations will be held in Constitution Square and Cismigiu Park. The events will run until December 27.
