Romania’s exports – 4th largest growth in EU

According to Eurostat, Romania’s exports grew by 26 per cent, this being the 4th largest growth in the EU against the backdrop in which only one member state reported a drop in exports. Romania’s imports hike was the 10th largest. Romania’s overall exports grew from EUR 21.2 bln in January-September 2009 to EUR 26.8 bln in the same period this year. Bulgaria reported the highest exports hike (+33 per cent), followed by Latvia (+29 per cent), Lithuania and Estonia (+28 per cent). Hungary reported a growth of 21 per cent. In Germany, Europe’s largest economy, exports grew by 19 per cent. Luxembourg was the only country whose exports dropped (-4 per cent). Romania’s imports went from EUR 28.4 bln in the first nine months of 2009 to EUR 33.8 bln in the same period this year.
