Table tennis: Romania – Balkan champion

Romania won the men’s and wo­men’s team competitions at the U-21 Balkan Championships in Bur­sa, Turkey. The Romanian team (Ovidiu Ionescu, Lucian Munteanu and Alexandru Petrescu) finished the men’s competition on first place, followed by Serbia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Albania. Romania lost to Serbia (2-3) and defeated Alba­nia (3-0), Turkey (3-1) and Bulgaria (3-1). In the women’s competition the Romanian team (Ioana Ghe­mes, Andrada Vincze and Anamaria Sebe) defeated Albania (3-0), Turkey (3-0), Bulgaria (3-0) and Serbia (3-2). Six Romanian players have moved beyond the groups’ stage in the singles competitions and will play in the last-16 stage.
