Marius Petcu, leader of the Sanitas Federation, stated after the meeting he had with President Traian Basescu that by the end of February 2011 a commission that will include representatives from the Presidency, the Health Ministry and Sanitas, will draft the final form of the national health pact. Petcu stated that he asked the Head of State “whether there is also a political commitment to finalize such a pact.” The leader of Sanitas said that the pact should include a clear medium and long-term forecast in what concerns the health system’s financing in order for the budget to no longer be “patched up from one year to the next.” He stated that “7-8-10 per cent” of the budget should be earmarked for the health system, if not next year then “in the next five or ten years those should be easy to attain targets.” President Traian Basescu said that he agrees to talk about a health pact “provided we won’t start from scrap” but would instead start off from the Presidential commission’s report on the health system, as happened in the case of the education pact.
