Biden compares Assange to a ‘high-tech terrorist’

WASHINGTON – The Vice-President of the United States, Joe Biden, has compared the activities of Julian Assange with those of a ‘’high-tech terrorist’’ but Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, would not be drawn on whether she supported the remarks, Sydney Morning Herald reported. On Sunday Biden, in an interview on NBC TV’s Meet the Press, was asked if he thought the WikiLeaks founder was a high-tech terrorist or a whistleblower.

He replied: ‘’I would argue that it’s closer to being a high-tech terrorist than the Pentagon Papers [on the Vietnam War].’’ Asked if the US government should do something to stop Assange, Biden said: ‘’We’re looking at that right now. The Justice Department is taking a look at that and I’m not going to comment on that process.’’

But Australian PM Gillard, asked if she supported Biden’s remarks, would not be drawn, merely repeating her view that the actions of Assange and WikiLeaks were ‘’grossly irresponsible’’. ‘’That’s my analysis. I’m not going to adopt anybody’s form of words, that’s my form of words, that’s what I believe.’’
