Guinness Book Christmas Gala in Brasov

Every Christmas, for ten years now, the Brasov Opera has been organizing an event-performance. The show caters for all tastes, from opera to folklore, Christmas carols, dance, ballet, poetry and comedy sketches. The ticket prices range between RON 40 and 70. This year’s gala takes place today, starting 7 pm. The programme is most generous, including the likes of Felicia Filip, Mircea Baniciu, Angela Similea, Ovidiu Komornyik, the priest Cristian Pomohaci, ballet dancers Razvan Mazilu, Iudith State and Vanda Stefanescu, Bianca Fota, Gigel Ungureanu (ballet soloists of the Bucharest National Opera), “The Sinners” Quartet, the Unison Choir, Nicolae Voiculet, Georgia Gulea and the Brasov Opera’s soloists, choir and ballet, under the baton of conductor Ciprian Teodorascu (the Bucharest National Opera). “The gala was initiated in 2000, when I became the director of the Brasov Opera. I had had, at the time, the experience of the Constanta Opera, where I used to organize such galas. In the beginning, the people in Brasov were a little reluctant to join in… The first such gala took place in the Dramatic Theatre hall, with 800 spectators. (…) The show was such a success that it immediately became a reference point on the agenda of people in Brasov,” the director of the Opera, Cristian Mihailescu, stated, for “Jurnalul National”. Mihailescu says the event brings together an ever growing number of spectators, adding the 2009 edition marked a record, running for six hours and ten minutes.
